'Let's be careful out there!'  That is a from an old TV show but really applies to the workplace. As the economy sours, legal claims soar.

Employee Relations is a catch-all phrase that really means managing your employees.  How could I help you with that?

Who is ultimately responsible for making sure your employees know what they are supposed to do, and how to do it?  Managers. 

Repetition is the mother of skill.  We did not  learn the alphabet by hearing it once.  We did not learn to write by tracing each letter once. New skills take practice and reinforcement. We sometimes underestimate how much time it can take to fully train an employee in all the areas they need to learn.

Training should not be a lecture.  My experience has been that the more they do, the more they learn. And isn't that the idea? So whether it's the top quality, professional conduct that you expect to see in their dealings with customers and co-workers, how to interview, how to manage a productive meeting, or a million other skills, they may need some training and some practice.
